2010 - 2011 - Quarter 1: August 16th - October 15th

The study and understanding of music is both educational and enriching. Many studies have been completed showing the positive value of music study on the development of the brain. At Holy Cross Lutheran Academy, we offer Music Classes to all students, Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Elementary Grades – God Made Music! For the 1st quarter, the Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade music classes will be involved in learning how music works. We will explore rhythms and movement and focus on learning how music is produced and notated. This will include learning note values and pitch names while working with folk songs, hymns and children’s songs.

3rd & 4th grade music classes will incorporate the use of soprano recorders during their music classes. There is a $7 fee to cover the cost of the recorder & music due for every 3rd & 4th grade student. Students will need to bring their recorders to class every week. The Music Class Participation Agreement explains what is expected of the students and how grades are determined. It will need to be signed by the student and their parent and returned to class by the 2nd week of classes. A copy of the agreement will be handed out in class or can be downloaded from this site.

For the 1st quarter, the middle school music classes will explore different ways of making music using their voices, hand chimes, and percussion instruments.
