About this Class: Second Graders R.O.C.K.—we Rely On Christ the King!  This year students will continue to move toward becoming learners that are responsible and self-motivated.  Students will be challenged to develop critical thinking skills in all academic subject areas as we work on creative ways to solve problems.   Students will build writing skills, writing more complex sentences by expanding vocabulary and becoming excellent spellers.  We will also keep a variety of journals across the curriculum and complete book reports/projects all year. Two areas will we focus on in social studies is government and geography, as well as other topics and in science we will explore space, chemical science, magnetism and matter.  Students will learn to add and subtract two and three digits with and without regrouping.  We will read, read, read!  Students will read independently, with partners and in small groups.  Students will work towards higher level comprehension skills by comparing and contrasting, making inferences,  understanding cause and effect, analyzing characters and understanding author’s purpose.  Lastly, we will have several fun and educational field trips this year.  We will visit the Seminole Public Library, so make sure your child has a library card, go to the Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna, attend a play at the Orlando Repertory Theatre, and visit the Kennedy Space Center.  I am looking forward to an awesome year of learning!
